Lab 4 - Project Management & Operations Support
On Project Management
Using a case study of an imaginary organization called "Norm's Rental Appliance and Furniture Business", and detailed, provided business processes descriptions (current and proposed), we learned how to schedule-out individual tasks' start and progress times across the lifetime of a project. To do so, we used a pretty popular (free) chart for project time management, resources, and task planning called the Gantt chart found in Microsoft Excel. Also, we learned that risk identification goes hand-in-hand with project scheduling and is a major part of the project planning process because risk analysis gives managers a way to anticipate and assign priority to risks as a basis for taking appropriate action (Croswell, 2009). A screenshot of my timeline is shown below.
Additionally, I learned to create a Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagram for system user requirements gathering and specification for the same case study as mentioned above.

On Operations Support
Also, in this lab assignment we exercised our growing GIS management skills by analyzing in detail the increasing role of mobile geospatial technology and work telecommuting options in how they are changing the way in which GIS work is done, can be done, and if current office environments today are still relevant in such an increasingly mobile ambiance. Finally, we learned to develop a user satisfaction plan for another case study.
